Marines Killed by ISIS, the US Muster Many Troops to Iraq

WASHINGTON - Pentagon, United States (US) to deploy troops to Iraq after a US Marine killed by a rocket attack ISIS.

The Pentagon announced the deployment of troops on Sunday US time. US Marines were killed during a raid on Saturday of last week in the northern city of Makhmur, Iraq, about 75 miles southeast of Mosul to base the group Islamic State (ISIS).

Number of US troops sent to Iraq kept secret Pentagon. However, the troops sent will be part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) 26, which will support the Iraqi forces and the international operation in the fight against ISIS.

The Pentagon identified the dead US marine named Louis F.Cardin, origin Temecula, California. Cardin was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.

Sending troops to Iraq was reminiscent of President Barack Obama's pledge that the US would not send troops to Iraq in the fight against ISIS.

Currently, around 3,700 US troops are in Iraq as trainers or advisors Baghdad soldiers. According to the Pentagon, which is quoted by Fox News, Monday (21/03/2016), 26th MEU are deployed to maintain regional security in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea and part of the Indian Ocean.

The official site MEU 26 members of the unit were deployed up the three amphibious assault ship; USS Kearsarge, USS Arlington and USS Oak Hill.

In addition to a US marine was killed by a rocket attack ISIS in Iraq, some US forces were also reported injured. A US official said the number is less than five personnel. They have been taken to the hospital. "It was a lucky strike from ISIS," said the official who declined to be identified.

Death marines add to the death toll of US troops into two since Washington launched combat operations against ISIS August 2014.

In October, the Army soldier, Joshua Wheeler was killed in a hostage rescue in Iraq. He was the first victim of US troops in Iraq since the withdrawal of troops in 2011.
